Panama City/La Ciudad de Panamá

Panama City is the capital of Panama and the gateway to the Panama canal; however, it is also home to so much more. From its cobblestoned historic center of Casco Viejo to its contemporary skyscrapers in the downtown area, Panama City is a place of both history and future.

What to do in Panama City

 Panama Canal

The Panama Canal is home to the "Bridge of the Americas". Despite popular belief, you do not have to be at the port to see the canal. The canal is visible from many points, such as Ancon Hill.

Ancon Hill

Ancon Hill is the highest point in Panama City and is only a short taxi ride away. I recommend hiking the two-hour hike since you are able to see the downtown area, the Panama Canal, and Casco Viejo from its summit.

Casco Viejo

Casco Viejo is the heart of Panama. From its colonial-era architecture to its many churches and ruins dating back to the 1600s, this is one of my favorite places in the world. Also, it's relatively safe to walk around during the day.

Walk the Mirador

Along the coastline of Panama City is a sidewalk connecting the downtown area and Casco Viejo. This is the best place to see the beauty of Panama City day or night.
